Yoshi's Woolly World All Amiibo Costumes

Special costumes can also be unlocked using compatible amiibo. By scanning any Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, Koopa Troopa, or Yoshi's Woolly World amiibo, the player can unlock costumes designed after the corresponding amiibo's character. Scanning any other amiibo unlocks the amiibo Box, a costume based on the amiibo's packaging.

If you're a costume hunter in Yoshi's Crafted World, you might have noticed already that tapping your amiibo will net you certain unique outfits for your friendly dinosaur character. But if you keep getting the amiibo box costume over and over again, you might be wondering exactly which amiibo you need to track down in order to collect the full closet of outfits Yoshi can wear.

Here's a quick guide to all the compatible amiibo in Yoshi's Crafted World and how to use them.

What do amiibo do?

If you tap almost any amiibo in Yoshi's Crafted World, you'll receive a costume you can use in-game to dress up Yoshi. These costumes work the same way as the ones you get from the gachapons in the game, but will be Super Rare and provide five shields against damage before they break. The costumes you receive from tapping amiibo cannot be obtained in any other way within the game.

How do I use amiibo?

You can tap amiibo from the main overworld by opening the menu with +, then selecting the 'amiibo' option. You'll then be prompted to tap any amiibo you want to use. You can tap as many as you want, though you'll only be able to obtain each unique costume once.

What amiibo give unique costumes in Yoshi's Crafted World?

Here is a full list of the amiibo that will give unique costumes. Parenthesis indicate that all versions of the amiibo listed will give the same costume.

  • Mario (Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Bros., Gold Version, Silver Edition, 30th Anniversary Classic Version, 30th Anniversary Version, Dr. Mario, Super Mario Odyssey
  • Luigi (Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Bros.
  • Peach (Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Bros.
  • Yoshi (Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Bros., Yarn Yoshi
  • Bowser (Super Smash Bros., Super Marios Bros., Super Mario Odyssey
  • Toad (Super Mario Bros.
  • Koopa Troopa (Super Mario Series
  • Green Yarn Yoshi (Mega Yarn Yoshi

Can I still use other amiibo?

If you have any amiibo not listed above, you can tap one of them once to receive an amiibo box costume. There is no reason to tap every one of your other amiibo if you've already done it once, as you can only obtain the amiibo box costume one time.

Dell Mobile Connect just got a whole lot better for iPhone users

A fresh update is now available for Dell Mobile Connect, making the app work just as well with iOS devices as it does with Android phones. Now, iOS users can mirror their screen on their PCs and send files back and forth between devices.

Yoshi’s Woolly World is out in Europe on Friday (Americans will have to wait until October for it). Now the review embargo‘s passed I can tell you it’s one of the most beautiful, charming games you’ll play this generation.

One of my favourite features in in the game is the ability to unlock unique costumes (well, wool patterns) for Yoshi by scanning amiibo figures on the Wii U GamePad at any time.

Amiibo

When you scan one, Yoshi’s wool colour changes so he looks like the character you scanned. This costume is then unlocked for good and selectable at any point (meaning you can scan a friend’s amiibo, as with the Mario Kart 8 costumes).

As someone who’s a bit of an amiibo addict, I’ve scanned every single one released in Europe to date, except for the Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl from Splatoon. Turns out they all work, except for the Pokemon ones (which I’d imagine is down to The Pokemon Company not wanting its characters involved in that way).

Below, then, is what almost every Yoshi design looks like when you scan the corresponding amiibo.

Now, I’d love to have put together a massive image gallery which would have looked all lovely, or put together a compilation video like others are doing, but I’m also a strong believer in not spoiling surprises for people and there’s a chance you have some amiibo but not others, and so only want to see what Yoshi looks like for the amiibo you don’t have.

Because of this, I’ve gone for a simple list instead. Click the character name to see a picture of the amiibo. It’s a more boring way of presenting it, but it’s also a safer way.

There are four new amiibo released in the UK on Friday: Palutena, Dark Pit, Zero Suit Samus and Ganondorf. I’ve got them on order so when they turn up I’ll add them to this list.

Reminder: It should go without saying that these could be considered spoilers. If you have any of these amiibo, I’d recommend not clicking their pictures so you can have the excitement of scanning them and discovering the costume yourself.

Finally, you may know that there’s also a special Yarn Yoshi amiibo coming out that generates a second Yoshi if you scan it. But what happens if you scan a normal Yoshi amiibo instead? Again, consider this a spoiler warning, but observe.
